Machu Picchu, Peru
| Machu Picchu, the "lost city of the Incas", is another place best described as "awesome". It is an entire Inca city built high on a ridge in the Andes. It was never found by the Spanish, but was abandoned by the Incas at the time of the invasion and became lost as the jungle overgrew it. It was rediscovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, an American archaeologist. |
