Cherry Blossom Time in Japan - 2015

54. The famous Miyajima Torii Gate

Our next stop is Miyajima, a small island not far from Hiroshima. It has been a holy place for most of Japanese history since 806 AD, when a monk established it as an ascetic site for the Shingon sect of Buddhism. This famed Torii gate greets us as we approach the island in terrible weather.
