037. Gatekeeper at Fushimi Inari Shrine

The distinguishing feature of the Fushimi Inari shrine is the long "tunnel" of more than 1,000 torii gates.Torii gates traditionally mark the transition from the profane (outside) to the sacred (inside) areas of the shrine although here, as in many other locations, each gate recognises a donor, with the donor's name and details recorded on the gate.
