Cherry Blossom Time in Japan - 2015

12. Cherry blossom

This is what it's all about. These blossoms, in delicate shades varying from pure white to many shades of pink, command the nation's attention for a few weeks each spring. The area-by-area dates of their arrival are predicted by the meteoroligical bureau, and celebrated with hanami ("flower viewing") parties, where family groups picnic beneath the trees in public places.
