17. St. Peter's Square
| This photo was taken during our 1996 visit to Rome, when we climbed the very steep and cramped stairs to the top of the dome and were rewarded with this magnificent view across the square, and across Rome. In the intervening years our ability to make climbs like this has lessened, and I suspect that, had we attempted it again, we would have interfered seriously with the day of countless other visitors. |
