This is an album of photos taken during our trip to Italy in August and September, 2014. We began our trip with four days in Rome doing the usual tourist things. Rome is a city where you can do the "tourist things" each time you visit, and you never seem to tire of them. Following that we picked up a rented car and spent seven days driving through Umbria and Tuscany, visiting and staying in many of the famous "hill towns" along the way.It seems that, since our previous visit to this area, most of the hill towns have now decided to hold "festivals" of one sort or another in the August/September period. In one way this added something to the experience but, working against that, it certainly added to the crowds we encountered throughout Umbria and Tuscany. Next, we spent four days in Florence and, during that time, visited the Accademia and Uffizi museums, before heading toward the coast, where we stayed for 3 days in Vernazza, on the famous Cinque Terre coastline. From there we drove the short distance to Santa Margherita Ligure, where we had stayed on our 1988 European trip, and once again enjoyed our time there and in neighbouring Portofino. Our trip finished with a relatively short drive to Milan to join our flight home. |
