51. The Bahia Palace, Marrakech

The Bahia Palace, only a few metres from our riad, was built in the 1860s by Grand Vizier Si Moussa and later further embellished by slave-turned-vizier Abu Ahmed (a vizier was an adviser to the Sultan). It is still in use by the current King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, as a Royal Palace, but parts of it are open to the public.
