35. The Terracotta Army

The figures were originally buried in vaults roofed with timbers and thatching. Over time, the covering collapsed and, with weathering and earthquake damage over the centuries, virtually all of them have been damaged. However, they remained in place and, for the most part, accurate reassembly of broken figures has been possible.
