Northern Vietnam, 2011

These photos were taken during our trip through northern Vietnam in March, 2011.

We entered Vietnam from Laos, crossing the mountains between the two countries to arrive in Vietnam at Dien Bien Phu, famous for the defeat of the French forces there in 1954.

After a short stay there, we travelled by road to the north, stopping regularly at hill tribe villages as we crossed the country to arrive at Sapa, a beautiful district in the very north of the country.

From Sapa we took the Fanxipan Express train to Hanoi, where we stayed in a hotel in the "old quarter" of the city.

Outings from Hanoi to Halong Bay and Ba Be lake rounded out or trip, and we returned home from Hanoi.
