8. Opal diggings at Coober Pedy
| Coober Pedy is famous for its opal mines dug by hand. But modern opal mining is different. These are exploratory drill holes which, apparently, have not produced any sign of opal. In the background are heaps of excavated earth from areas that have produced more encouraging signs. |
