>Our visit to Cambodia was specifically to visit the Angkor complex of temples, including the famous Angkor Wat. Thus, we flew directly to Siem Reap, the town closest to the Angkor complex. The Angkor temples are stretched across more than 20 km. Most were built around the 12th century as Hindu temples, but became Bhuddist monuments in the 14th century, when the Khmer people adopted Bhuddism as their dominant religion. The temples of Angkor were reclaimed by the jungle centuries ago, and it was only in the 19th century that they were rediscovered. |
