The monks' procession in Luang Prabang, Laos

Each morning at sunrise the monks from the various temples begin their "procession" through Luang Prabang begging for alms - a ritual which has been practiced ever since Buddhism arrived in Luang Prabang in the 14th century. Local people line the street with their offerings - mostly rice - as the monks present their alms bowls. Because it's disrespectful to look down on the monks the people, while giving alms, seat themselves on the ground or on low stools.
