| The Blue Mosque (more accurately known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque) is one of the best known in the Islamic world. It was built between 1609 and 1616 by Sultan Ahmed I and is known as the Blue Mosque because of the predominantly blue colour of the ceramic tiles used to decorate its interior. |
