Schoolchildren at Sacsayhuaman, Peru

Sacsayhuaman, meaning "House of the Sun", is near Cusco. It was originally a religious site but also functioned as a fortress during the Spanish invasion. It was here that the Spanish inflicted their final bloody defeat on the Incas in 1536. It is now the site of an annual festival for schoolchildren in traditional costume, who re-enact Inca battles and dances. The multicoloured flag carried by the children is the flag of the Incas.
